Recitation of Tehilim 119 for the sick person

This psalm is an alphabetical arrangement describing the constant striving to faithfully live a true life of Torah, regardless of time, place, circumstances, or social environment. The psalm consists of twenty-two sets of verses, each set containing eight verses beginning with the same letter. It is customary to spell the name of the deceased by reciting the sets of verses corresponding to the letters of his or her Hebrew name followed by the letters that correspond to the word Neshama (soul). Some have the custom to add verses that correspond to the mother or father’s Hebrew name before the verses of Neshama (soul).
